We are hiring for the following positions:

Head Cashier

Job Description: Head Cashier

Reports to: Program Director

Class: Non-Exempt (hourly)

Hours per week: 34

Overview:  Detailed descriptions of responsibilities are addressed in the Discovery Shop Policies & Procedures Handbook.

Following is an overview of this position’s responsibilities:

Gift Shop Duties

  • Operate sales through Vend POS, Square and Fare Harbor.

  • Greet visitors per protocol in Cashiers’ Handbook.

  • Answer visitor questions or direct them to the appropriate person/location.

  • Accept drop-in reservations for Walks, Talks & Treks.

  • Complete four Daily Reports in Vend, and one each in Square and Fare Harbor.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the gift shop.

  • Ensure the work station remains clean.

Training

  • Assist with the training of new personnel.

  • Assist with updated training.

  • Assist with training of new procedures.

Shop Supplies

  • Advise DSM of needed operational supplies.

  • Replenish the brochures and rack cards.

  • Restock the Membership Applications when needed.

Merchandise

  • Re-merchandise shop displays.

  • Maintain stock quantities on the shop floor.

  • Keep the schematic of the Retail Supply Room current.

  • Restock from the Retail Supply Room.

Administration (On Fridays when DSM is off)

  • Check price deficiencies on the floor and make corrections.

  • Print tags for untagged merchandise on the floor.

  • Manage receipt of goods.

ShopTybee

  • Check, process and ship ShopTybee purchases.

  • Enter new items into ShopTybee.

  • Maintain stock in ShopTybee.

And, other duties as required.

Job Description: Retail Buyer

Sales in the Tybee Island Marine Science Center’s (center) Discovery Shop, generate an important source of revenue for the center’s animal rescue programs.

You’ll be responsible for planning, selecting and purchasing quantities of merchandise for island visitors to purchase in our Discovery Shop.

Work activities

  • Review existing goods to ensure their products remain competitive.

  • Liaising with existing suppliers

  • Sourcing and building relations with new suppliers

  • Sourcing and selecting new products through catalogs

  • Monitoring market changes, competitor prices and products

  • Analyzing past sales patterns to anticipate trends in consumer buying pattern

  • Recommending clearance sales and varying delivery schedules to help control stock levels

  • Lead in planning store layouts

Qualifications

  • Successful experience in retail purchasing.
